Maddy Moo. Let me just cheese for a minute.

She's very kind, she kept passing her gifts around for her friends to open.

She loves her little brother. If he's crying and I can't get to him right away she rubs his head and talks to him very sweetly, "sweetheart I'm right here"

Jocko is her best friend.

She can boss all of us around for hours (days really).

She could live on cereal, Rice Krispies are her go to but Yucky Charms are a good treat.

She just got her hair chopped off (pics to come).

She loves her ballet class.

She wakes up happy every morning, it's the best part of my day.

She has more energy than I ever imagined a child could have. Literally bouncing around from the minute she wakes up till she crashes at night.

Bear and Cat (who is somehow Bear's dad) go with her everywhere.

She loves to color, paint and do puzzles.

When playing with all her "friends"/toys she lines them up, on the tub, against the wall, on the couch, on my bed.

She is my sunshine and her dad's favorite date.

November 18th we went to court to finalize our adoption of Anders. It happened to be National Adoption day so local adoption agencies made it kind of a big deal. I believe 17 families were able to finalize adoptions on that day, infants and older children, pretty incredible. You spend just a few minutes in the courtroom with the judge. Our lawyer asks if we are aware and prepared to care for this child as if he was born to us. We say yes and say that we feel he is bonding well and then that's about it. Our judge was very kind and tried to talk to Maddy. It's all pretty quick. They gave the kids balloons and teddy bears, we got to choose a cake and gift bag and they took a family picture. We went out to breakfast and then just went back to normal life. It's funny because it matters and feels good to have everything legal but it doesn't change how we feel.

Last weekend we got to seal Anders to us in the Twin Falls temple. We feel so lucky that so many of our family and friends made the journey over to Twin. Grandpa performed the sealing so it was to the point. He was a little intimidated by Anders middle name, Kamalei, he told me that he had been practicing all morning to pronounce it right and he did. I can't really describe what it feels like to be in a sealing room with these perfect little kids. Maddy was so excited to see all her Aunties and grandparents and wanted to say hi to everyone. Luckily Mana was able to chill her out long enough for Grandpa to do his work. It was freezing outside so this is the only picture we have at the temple.

Then we partied at Cafe Rio. Three Amigos of the trip. Oh to be a fly on the wall in their car.

We ate lots of treats and sat around. We do that well.

Madeleine as Jessie is the most perfect fit for this girl. It's hard not to brag about how awesome she is, cuz she is.

And this kid, who knew he likes to smile so much. Feel like we are so new at this. Had to play around with formula quite a bit, had some rough weeks. And now this is what we get everyday.

I keep finding myself laptopping when I should be asleep. It's always around 10:30 when things are quiet and I go through my google reader. I'm so behind, don't even get me started on Pinterest.
But this girl is killing me lately. She is cute and sweet and so big.

This was from swim lessons tonight.

She's pretty happy with this new little guy around. Today she got him out of the swing, laid him on the couch and went scrounging in the fridge for a bottle. So nice and scary.

Just one anecdote. My mom was here when Anders was born so she stayed with Maddy while we were at the hospital. The first evening Maddy and grandma came to visit at the hospital then went home to go to bed. Maddy cried the whole way home and then while my mom was getting her teeth brushed and jammies on. At one point Maddy stopped crying and said "Why is she crying? She misses her mama, huh?" Kills me everytime I think about it. She was lucky to have grandma around to kiss her and sing her songs till she fell asleep that night.

Trying to take full advantage of our one month free trial of netflix and the fact that I can really only watch shows in the middle of the day or night. One more season of FNL to go, and I watched Felicity every afternoon during nap time. I never watched it back in the 90's. I hated the last episode, it ruined the whole show for me. Felicity ends up being mean and self-centered. And Noel is whiny.

This is Bear taking a time out. Bear speaks for Maddy, he cries when Maddy needs attention, he drinks his bottle when Anders is eating, he hits other toys and gets in trouble, he takes naps and likes to watch movies and eat cereal. Last week at church Maddy brought kitty cat instead of Bear, four different people asked where Bear was.

I haven't watched any of the new Parenthood, I'm 5 weeks behind in Project Runway, I missed The Office and New Girl. And my productivity is absolutely measured in the TV shows I'm able to watch.

We did manage to finish season 4 of Friday Night Lights. I think it's the best season. Saracen buries his dad, Vince has to sell his soul to save his mom. And Tim, oh Tim.

Anders Kamalei

Anders was born on August 29th at 3:07 am. We were at the hospital and heard his first cry. We are a little bit in awe of his birth mother, he weighed 9 lbs 5 oz.

Maddy is still a little dazed but we've been home for 24 hours now and she asks to hold him more and more.

He is perfect and sweet and we love him like crazy.

2nd Annual San Diego trip

This is the epitome of life at Mana's. Swimsuit on & a nice coke waiting to be enjoyed.

We all headed to San Diego on July 12th. Adam got to surf several times including Baja Malibu. Maddy and I got our tan on swimming in the pool. We made just two beachtrips, one mall trip, one Target trip, two half gallons of chocolate malted crunch were consumed. Pretty mellow for us this year!

We also squeezed in a birthday party/baby shower with the family.

Adam's Triathlons

I've lost track of how many races Adam has done this year. The Boise Half Ironman, the Boise & Burley Spudman Olympic distance, Emmett's Most Excellent Triathlon maybe one more in Burley in September.

Anyway, he's awesome. The Burley Spudman he got first in his age group. The Emmett he got 8th place OVERALL. He beat his Ironman time from last year by 50 minutes. Every goal he set he has at least met, usually exceeded. He's got the bug and it's really fun to watch.

I know this post sounds like I'm bragging (which I am) but he put a ton of time into his training, a lot of early, early mornings and coaching sessions and special gear. Plus it's been a great way to stay busy and not miss the surf. ha

Started with Snow Girls reunion in Layton, Ut and then Grandma Eunice's funeral and finally we made it to our Pinedale, WY destination.

Reunion was perfect, Natalie Jensen was the perfect hostess withan awesome backyard. It is so crazy to see the girls you did a lot of stupid things with grow up and be in charge of all these kids we had around. I don't have any pictures, awesome.

The cool thing about funerals of grandparents is getting to hear about their life. The life they had way before I knew them. It's also pretty incredible to hear family friends talk about how much they loved her.

Pinedale. Maddy kept hitting John and missed all her Toy Story toys. Sarah and I watched lots of silly/good TV. (Hello Melissa & Joey fans!)We made it to the lake, we played with a brand new mini horse andwatched Jake feed thecalf, Cody. Weate lots oflicorice and chips and salsa. Perfect right?

Maddy woke up to balloons all over the house and ALL her Toy Story friends offering treats.

I spent several days making really cute aprons for 14 YW. Maddy figured she should help. She kept shoving the fabric and trying to push buttons

Madeleine fell in love/obsession with anything Toy Story. Mana sent her a Buzz Lightyear and he didn't leave her side for days. She now has a Woody doll, and a smaller figurine of every character, 16 Toy Story books, all three movies, reusable sticker book, Color Wonder Toy Story book, Buzz Lightyear slippers, Woody tee that says, "Most Likely to Save the World", Toy Story fruit snacks on demand. We may have gone a little overboard, no? Ok good.

We played in lots of snow. Madeleine just wanted to lay in it or let Adam pull her in the sled, not go down the hill, just lay in the sled and be dragged around.

Maddy learned to really cruise on her Skuut. She was so cautious at first but by the end of summer she was quick. We are really missing the outdoor activities that used to fill our days.

This was our first attempt. A full day outside with the potty readily available. She sat on it for a minute then just swam all day. Refused to go number two and I never saw if she went number one. Ok.

Day two. So now I'm forcing my child to watch Sesame Street? She's never watched TV before but for potty training...anything. She didn't stay entertained long. As soon as she got up from the potty she peed in Adam's office. Then sat for a while again. When she got bored she went and jumped on my bed and peed. So so fun.

Anyway, I don't get it.

Mana spoiled Madeleine and me for a full week. She made sure Maddy got in the pool at least once a day. She made sure Maddy had enough clothes for our CRUISE in December (especially matching dresses with her only other girl cousin). She made sure I had way too many gluten free treats. She made sure we watched lots of cat fights (um, hello Real Housewives of NJ!) She made sure we played with lots of cousins. She made sure Maddy jumped on the trampoline a lot. Needless to say we had a wonderful time.

We got to spend the fourth weekend with Nate and Des in Creswell.

My mom came to visit and I'm sure she thinks I'm super boring. She is always in project mode and I'm just kinda lazy, I guess.
But we went to the Cherry Festival and quilt show in Emmet, we went to the farmer's market and got some yummy gluten-free lime cheesecake, we saw Toy Story 3 and really recommend it, we played in the pool, we tried lots of new recipes, we spent too much money on baby girls at Carters and we let Madeleine boss us around.

Adam got home from Minnesota just in time to stress over one of the soccer games.

Those both cost a total of $2.00. I have an amazing visiting teacher who has taken hours of her time to teach me to sew. And I've been using up every scrap of fabric I happen to have laying around.

I made this lemon curd and put it in a trifle with angel food cake, whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries. Yummy but the curd was pretty tart. My young women loved it.

I could eat this carrot cake with a thick helping of cream cheese frosting everyday.

I know Easter was over a month ago but our little centerpiece was cute, no? Twigs with yellow birds and nest (via Kate of course), teal, felt 'flowers' (leftovers from one of Liz's wedding projects). I think every party I ever do will be teal and/or yellow.

Maddy's sweet friend Audrey invited her for an Easter Egg Hunt today. This is the first time Maddy has hunted for eggs, pretty cute. She was not terribly efficient, she'd leave her basket in one spot, pick up and egg and go back and drop it in her basket. And she kept picking up eggs and putting them in other kids baskets. Needless to say she had a blast. All the jellybeans and laffy taffy and cookies didn't hurt the fun.

Due to National Adoption month in November and because we were working on our paperwork for placement I've been thinking a ton about adoption. I am not eloquent enough to express my love and admiration for birth parents. I can't really explain how incredible my life is with Madeleine. I worry how she will feel about her life. If she will see it as the blessing I do. I just know that living with her makes me happy. Makes me want to be better. To learn more. To be more kind and forgiving. To make birthdays and holidays a big deal. To love her dad a little more.
This article was in the Ensign the month before Madeleine was born. It is such a good reminder of how precious these sweet babies are.

Sometimes I really like where I am in my life right now. Sweet Maddy and I just went for our first bike ride. Got a screaming deal at a yard sale this weekend and have had PERFECT weather to test 'er out. We cruised around some new homes, an older neighborhood I've always liked, we saw some horses and lots and lots of pretty flowers in bloom. Madeleine looved it.
Now she's taking a nap and I'm thinking about the laundry that needs folding and the dusting I still haven't done. So sometimes that's not so fun.

The drizzly weather has us stuck inside. So for the second time I am trying to catch up on Friday Night Lights. My brother, who analyzes everything, swears it's the best show on tv. I am trying to support it. But when I say catch up I mean watch the entire second and third season. It takes some effort. Watching a minimum of three drama filled shows a day leads me to believe life is dramatic. But sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's just laundry and laptopping and exercising and mopping and dinner.

If any of these happen to come on tv (thank you PBS, who knew) I will watch, even if there is only 27 minutes left. It's like when your favorite song comes on the radio, so much more gratifying then shuffling to it on your ipod.

Adam was away for the week so I had plans to do all sorts of crafty fun with my baby. But my baby is sick. I am counting my blessings as I say this, Maddy has never been really sick. A little snot nose here and there but not sick, sick. Since Sunday afternoon she has just been lathargic and sad. No outbursts, no vomiting, no whining. She has a little fever and just lays on my lap. Is it awful that I love being needed this much? And how did I end up with such a perfect child? She really, really is.

I get really jealous when I hear of other people taking their kids to the beach this time of year. We can't even muster up the energy to go play in the snow in our own back yard. Maddy even got an awesome snow suit. It is 22 degrees outside today, 22. She was a baby baby last year during the snow and might miss it again this year. We need 6 inches to fall and then 45 degree weather, is that so much to ask?

New Year's means nothing. Let's be honest, it's just another day. So why do I feel the need to set goals. It's always the same 10 pounds. Although this year with Madeleine I get to make goals for her too. Picnic at the park once a week during the summer. Go to the water park. Get good tans (well she does). I guess setting goals is good, it just feels too generic this time of year to actually stick. I think I'll make my resolutions next month when I'm bored.

If you do something two years in a row can it be considered tradition? I should preface all the "excited" pictures of Madeleine with the info that we got off the plane about an hour earlier and she hadn't slept well in about a week. The fact that she isn't crying in all the pictures is a testament to her sweetness.
We headed up to Sweet, Id for our annual sled, eat, tree chop on Monday. So we finally have our tree.

Maddy and I spent last week in SLC with Aunt Kakie. She had a booth in the Beehive Bazaar with all her letterpress cards and prints and adorable embroidered kids shirts. Maddy and I were the help. It astounds me the amount of talent my siblings have. I can barely color inside the lines.

We also got to meet her new boy. He makes her all giggly and silly so...

I've been writing my wishlist for a while now. Most of the stuff is pretty practical. A new hair straightner, some slippers, a juicer, workout gear, etc. These, however are neither practical or necessary, I'm not even sure where I would wear them. That doesn't stop me from drooling.

Sweet Madeleine's Room

I love Madeleine's room. It is soft and warm and wonderful. Maddy loves it too.

I held on to this skirt for years and when I pulled it out as a temporary fix for Maddy's crib I fell in love with it. The crib is pretty modern so I love the soft, sweetness of the skirt.

"crisp lettuce" is the name of the green I used in her room. It is perfect.

Bobbie Thomas. Mainly I want her hair. The color, the cut, the volume. I love her style and she always does cute stuff on the Today show. When she does cheap alternatives to the trends they are actually cheap, genious.

Urban Outfitters has lots of cute feather hair things right now. My sister made this exact headband and I love love love it on her. I can't decide if her fabulous blond hair makes it so right. Would I need crazy peacock feathers to look ok in my darker hair? More importantly I need somewhere to wear this particular accessory. This wedding in December is becoming all too important.
